New York City Vacations: Travel to New York & Explore NYC’s Unique Landmarks, Neighbourhoods & Museums

New York City is the largest city in the United States, a leading world city. A major global commercial, financial, cultural, art, fashion, research, media and entertainment center with a population of more than 8 million people. The metropolitan area has more than 19 million people and is the fifth largest city in the world. It is divided into five boroughs: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and The Bronx.

Must-see destinations for most people on their New York vacations are the city’s main iconic sights, which include the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty. New York City architecture is among the top draws for New York City visitors. New York City building design is centered on skyscrapers, and the city features more than 5,500 high-rise buildings. Fifty of these New York City skyscrapers are more than 650 feet (200 m) tall and many of them are iconic buildings, such as the Woolworth Building (1913), the Chrysler Building (built in 1930 and a great example of Art Deco), the Empire State Building, opened in 1931, the GE Building – part of the Art Deco Rockefeller Centre. More modern skyscrapers include the Seagram Building, opened in 1957, the MetLife Building (the former PanAm Building which dates from 1963) and the twin towers of the World Trade Center which were the city’s tallest buildings from 1973 until they were destroyed in 2001.

The museums of New York City include some of the most visited museums in the world: the MOMA – Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
