Florida Travel: Florida Tourist Attractions and Destinations

Florida tourist attractions are numerous and more than 60 million people travel to Florida every year to enjoy its countless family or luxury resorts, its fabulous climate and landscapes. As one of the United States’ most popular destinations for tourism, Florida enchants visitors with a wide array of destinations, activities, cultural institutions and special events.

Travel to Florida can include a visit to the Florida Panhandle cities: Tallahassee, the capital of Florida; the sea port city of Pensacola; Fort Walton Beach, a large beach resort community; and Panama City, along the U.S. Route 98. North Florida is home to Jacksonville, the largest city of Florida; Amelia Island, with its numerous music and movie festivals; and Ocala, a city with cultural and nature tourism attractions in Marion County, Florida. In South Florida you will find the Everglades swamps, the beaches of Miami and the Florida Keys. Travel to Central Florida if you want to experience its numerous resorts and theme parks such as Disney World, SeaWorld and Universal Studios Florida among the most famous. All of Florida is also a very popular retirement destination. Snowbirds from the north flock here to get away from freezing winters and enjoy the year-round sun and warmth of Florida.

Florida's Natural Visitor Center

Nearly one “snowbird” out of five goes to Florida each year, which makes Florida the number one retirement destination. Ocala Palms Golf, Country Club, Solivita and Citrus Hills are the main retirement communities. Pinellas County Florida, Seminole County Florida, Polk County Florida and Broward County Florida also attract a large number of out-of-town visitors. Another popular area in Florida, Lakeland , is home to the largest on-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture and appeals to Florida visitors with the Polk Museum of Art.

Younger people will also be able to enjoy some good vacations in Florida and enjoy its wild landscape, especially in the tropical islands of the Florida Keys, and its diverse fauna: birds (the Florida Scrub Jay can only be found in Florida), alligators, crocodiles, dolphins, the Key Deer, etc.

Florida holidays also include enjoying the nice climate, the balmy weather, the beaches, swimming, golfing, horseshoes, darts, pool, billiards, tennis courts, ice cream socials, crafts, clubhouses and more! Florida getaways often include sports events as well. Sports fans will be able to cheer up their favorite local teams since nearly two thirds of Major League Baseball teams have a spring training presence in Florida and the state has two MLB teams (the Florida Marlins and the Tampa Bay Rays), three NFL teams (the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Miami Dolphins), two NHL teams (the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning) and two NBA teams (the famous Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic.)

Want to get there?

If you planned to get to Disney World or other Central Florida resorts , Orlando Airport is the right airport. It serves as a secondary hub for AirTran Airways and is the second busiest airport in Florida, after Miami Airport, the choice airport if you are to get to Miami’s Beaches or the Everglades. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport and Tampa Airport are two other major airports in Florida. Most large international airlines offer Florida flights to those airports and almost every American airline serves this area as well (US Airways, Spirit Airlines, Atlantic Airlines, etc.). Florida is easily accessible by car and many trains and buses serve destinations in Florida as well.
