A Guide to Chicago Flights, Airfares, Tours and Accommodations

Chicago is an important transportation hub in the US and the third largest intermodal port in the world after Singapore and Hong Kong.

With its five terminals, O’Hare is a major airport. United Airlines and American Airlines use it as a hub to operate multiple flights in and out of Chicago daily and the airport is also served by almost every major airlines of the world. Air Canada, Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Southwest, and WestJet frequently offer good Chicago airfares. Some low-cost companies as JetBlue and Spirit Airlines fly there too and many specialized websites offer cost-effective Chicago travel deals. Some airlines use Twitter to market cheap airfares, so don’t forget to check while looking for a Chicago flight. Midway Airport is Chicago’s second airport and is served only by North American airlines.

You can also easily get from/to Chicago by car via the extensive highway system throughout the city and connecting to major urban centres such as Detroit, Indianapolis, St. Louis, Madison and Milwaukee. Many trains from all the US go through the city via the famous Union Station and Chicago is well served by bus companies (Wisconsin Coach, Greyhound, Megabus, and Indian Trails.)

Great Chicago tours can be experienced as the city is well served by tourism operators and offers magnificent train or bus tours, bicycle and walking tours: walk the Loop Art Tour to see extraordinary collections of public art or experience the one-day-and-one-night-long Along the Magnificent Mile Tour to have a great overview of the City Center. Most Chicago tours will include the 3,300-foot-long Navy Pier, the Museum Campus, which hosts world-class museums as the Field Museum of Natural History, the Adler Planetarium & Astronomy Museum and the Shedd Aquarium in their sightseeing program.

Accommodation in Chicago

Like in any other destination, Chicago hotels will charge different rates depending on the season. To get better prices, travel during the off-season and take advantage of Chicago hotel discounts. Traveling to Chicago on a budget can also involve staying in one of several youth hostels located in the city but smaller hotels that are located outside of the Loop will also offer better prices. Hotels close to the airport will generally also offer more affordable rates, but keep in mind that it can take about an hour or more to get downtown. To plan your trip and for more Chicago Travel Deals, check major hotel booking sites such as Orbitz.com, Expedia.com, Travelocity.com, Priceline.com, Hotels.com and others.
